You can cancel your credit cardat your provider's branch or by calling the number on the back of your card. Your card should be cancelled immediately without any fees.
You may be asked why you're cancelling your card. Be honest – say that you found an offer that suits you better. The banker may try to match it - it's up to you to decide.
Review your final statement. When you're certain your account is no longer active, cut up your card and throw it out. After your final bill is paid, remove this credit card from your chequing account's payee list.
Transfer pre-authorized payments you've been making through your credit card (like paying for your cell-phone plan).
Check your card's account for all pre-authorized debits you have set up.
You will have to call or email each supplier (the phone company) to change the payment method - to your new credit card or to your chequing account.
